Heavy carved huanghuali (yellow flower rosewood) cover of hat shape with a wide brim, the edge carved in low relief of archaistic facing taotie masks, the sides with pierced lotus and tendril design. Missing knop. China, Qing Dynasty, 18th - early 19th century.
